Homework with Horses
Ages 5-13
Camp Description
Homework With Horses
What better way to do your homework than in the barn?! The idea behind this program is to promote literacy and healthy habits and also to turn homework into a fun adventure in the barn, rather than something that students dread. The evening will include a Ranch provided snack to fuel our brains, a fresh air walk to fuel our bodies and approximately 30-40 minutes devoted to homework and reading time which can be pencil/paper work and reading time. Please note: the barn does not have internet and screen time does not fit with our unplugged philosophy- please do not bring screens/devices to the barn. We will utilize the tables and chairs in the classroom for homework and snuggle up in our horse’s manger for reading time where students can choose to read silently or aloud to their horse. Students should come prepared with plenty of age appropriate reading material. Younger students are encouraged to bring practice workbooks, journals or coloring pages for homework time, and if older students have no homework that day they are welcome to use more time for reading. We will round out our evening with some light grooming and tidying up the barn for the night. Please note, if weather does not allow for our nature hike (rain) the class will end 30 minutes earlier.

Please provide as much information as possible when inquiring so we can expedite your individual plan and quote.
Scout Troops:
Most Scout Troops are looking for something centered around horses. Depending on the ages we can offer buckaroo barnyard rides, trail rides and horse drawn hayrides. We can also accommodate badge work requests. Many Scout Troops will make it an overnight experience by adding on camping, but we can also accommodate day groups.
School Groups:
Horse drawn hayrides are our most popular requests for school groups, often in the Fall through Winter months. Things like hot cocoa, smore’s or hot dog roasts can be incorporated to round out the afternoon.

Riding Lessons
Ages 5 – Adult
Program Description
Riding Lessons
Our riding lessons are a combination of both riding and horsemanship. We want our students to start with the basics and grow from there. It’s important to understand a 1 hour lesson will not be 1 hour of saddle time. Students will first learn how to act safely in the barn, safely work around and lead their horses, grooming, how to tack up and then begin working on Western Riding. Logically speaking the more lessons you take the longer saddle time you will gain, but more often than not students are not even in saddle during their first 1 hour lesson. We work at the pace of our individual students meaning two students who started at the same time could be at very different points after their fourth lesson and so on.
Safety is important and instructors will evaluate students on an individual basis when fine tuning their lesson plans each week. We offer private lessons for a 1:1 student/instructor ratio and also small group lessons with a maximum of 4 students per instructor. These small group lessons are great for friends or siblings to attend together, but we do not blend unknown parties.
For small group lessons we will always ride to the ability of the least experienced rider and for this reason it is ideal that students are of comparable experience when first starting out.
