During the winter months, Ranch Rudolf offers horse-drawn sleigh or hay rides. Our Belgian horses, Prince and Monte, will take you for a scenic ride through the Boardman River Valley which turns into a true winter wonderland between December and late February. These guys are each around 2200 lbs of true beauty.

Your ride will start at the Ranch and you will be taken through the woods down a seasonal road and along the Boardman River where you will loop around back toward the Ranch.  The ride itself takes approximately 45 minutes.

Reservations are required.  You get your group of people together and call to make a reservation for your own group’s ride. Call us at 231-947-9529 for an available time. Once a reservation has been made we have a no refund policy. Rides during the winter season are generally available on Saturdays and Sundays, with extended hours around the Christmas and New Year Season.  We are closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Sleigh or hay rides are $14 per person and children 2 and under are free. There is a minimum charge of $140 if you have fewer than 10 people in your group. The sleigh or wagon can accommodate up to 20 people per ride so bring your friends and family for a special activity that has been enjoyed for generations.

With your reservation, if you have fewer than ten people in your party, you have the option of paying the minimum charge to keep it your family’s own private ride.  If, however, you are hoping to offset the cost, please mention at time of reservation that you are open to joiners.  If you are open to joiners we try to bundle you with other smaller groups.  The reserving party is, however, required to meet the minimum payment should we not be able to coordinate another smaller group with your reserved ride time.

You should dress for the weather as you will be outside for the duration of the ride.  You are also welcome to bring blankets if you wish.  You will be sitting in an open bed of hay during the ride.

Depending on your reservation date and time the lodge may be open for food or beverages before or after the ride.  Please inquire for details at time of reservation.

A Special Note Regarding Your Ride
Please understand that when the drivers are harnessing horses for your ride they will decide if they will be hooking the horses to the wagon or to the sleigh, depending on conditions.  In order for the horses to be able to safely pull the sleigh on runners there has to be a solid base packed down.  If the drivers do not feel that conditions allow for the sleigh they will hook horses to the wagon.  Conditions can change quickly in northern Michigan and this decision typically cannot be made until the day of the ride.  Please understand that using the wagon versus the sleigh does not constitute a refund.  The two are almost identical and you’ll have the same horses, the same driver and the same open bed of hay the only difference is that one is on four wheels and the other is on four runners.  The safety and comfort of our horses has to be the number one priority when making this decision.  Thank you for your understanding.
